Geneva scores four in a row to overtake Foxes

Geneva scored four goals in a 7:30 span of the second period to erase a 2-goal deficit and emerge from Game 5 of the Southern Conference finals with a 6-4 win. Munich led 4-2 after Steve Downie and Toni Lydman scored goals in the second period, but then the Generals took over. Chris Kunitz, Marian Gaborik, Mike Fisher and David Desharnais all scored goals to put Geneva up 6-4 before the period ended. The third period was scoreless.  Ten players had at least two points on Thursday, 6 from Geneva and 4 from Munich. Gaborik and Kunitz did better than anyone as each had a goal and 2 assists. Other multi-point games were turned in by Desharnais, Dennis Wideman, Michael del Zotto and Teemu Selanne, all of Geneva, and Dion Phaneuf, Joe Thornton, Matt Cooke and Steve Downie of Munich. Wideman and Del Zotto led everyone in hits with 5 each. Neither goalie played particularly well, with Jonathan Quick of Munich yielding 6 goals on 26 shots and Geneva’s Kari Lehtonen allowing 4 goals on 26 shots.
