Trade deadline preview/rumors

By Phelim McAleer

The purpose of this article is to aggregate some of the trade rumours and block in order to prepare everyone for the deadline and to facilitate more trades.

Trades that happened:Erik Ersberg left Madrid to Berlin for top Dman Brian Campbell and a pick.

In a huge trade, Alex Ovechkin and Dave Bolland left Moscow for Copenhagen in exchange for Brandon Sutter, Kevin Dallman, and Andrew Ladd.

Top Line Forwards:

Despite the low amount of trades this year, there are a number of top-line forwards on the block, especially from top teams in the league. These include Alex Ovechkin (Moscow), Jarome Iginla (Helsinki), Patrick Marleau and Marian Gaborik (Geneva), Brad Richards and Eric Cole (St. Petersburg), Shane Doan (Stockholm), and Daniel Alfredsson (above – Milan).

As previously stated, most of these teams are competing so they are probably looking for upgrades or younger players with a similar OV. However Stockholm’s Shane Doan and Milan’s Daniel Alfredsson could command a 1st round pick if they feel out of the playoff hunt.

Top Line Defense:

While Brian Campbell has already been spoken for, there are a number of top 4 defenseman that would fit on a few teams. These include Chris Phillips (Helsinki), Alex Goligoski (Copenhagen), Mike Giordano (Stockholm), and Eric Brewer (Prague). Upgrades, picks, or prospects will be the asking price.

Goaltenders:

There are an abundance of goaltenders on the market which will drive down the price, making a buyer’s market. However, Ryan Miller (Prague), Jonas Hiller (Copenhagen), Andrej Pavelec (Belfast), and Corey Crawford (Athens) would easily slot in as starters on some teams. Look for some of these goalies to move, especially Pavelec who has huge potential.
