STOCKHOLM – Here’s a chronological report of the Season 6 All-Star Game played tonight in Stockholm, Sweden.
Pre-game entertainment provided by Avicii and Anette Olzon, two popular musicians in Sweden.
First period- Goalies: Carey Price (Northern), Cory Schneider (Southern)
2:45 – Nathan MacKinnon passes to Adam Henrique in the slot; wrist shot beats Schneider to open the scoring. 1-0 North
4:18 – Rick Nash rips a snapshot to the far side after he and linemates Milan Lucic and Paul Stastny kept the puck in the South zone for about 45 seconds. 2-0 North
5:36 – Nick Backstrom makes Kris Letang look a little silly, putting the puck between his legs and then deking Schneider. 3-0 North
13:03 – The Southern Conference gets on the scoreboard as Anze Kopitar collects a rebound in front of Carey Price and slides the puck to an open Patric Hornquist for the goal. 3-1 South
16:52 – Price robs Steven Stamkos with a kick save while prone on the ice.
18:24 -Now we know what a line of Lucic, Stastny and Nash would look like and it’s scary. Nash and Lucic pick up assists after Michael Del Zotto’s slapshot from the point gets through Schneider. 4-1 North
Second period – Goalies: Alexander Salak (N), Robin Lehner (S)
8:17 – Brent Seabrook jumps into the play, takes a pass from Gabriel Landeskog, races down the left side past Erik Johnson and deposits the puck past Salak on the short side. Hope builds for the South. 4-2 North
8:30 – The South almost gets another one as Corey Perry rings one off the crossbar.
13:10 – Johnny Gaudreau shows he belongs in the game with a wrap-around goal to beat Lehner. 5-2 North
15:54 – The North passes it around for a while and Stastny ends the play with a quick low wrist shot. Defensemen Del Zotto and Ryan Suter collect assists, but forwards Lucic, Stastny and Nash have another strong shift. 6-2 North
16:49 – Berlin linemates Ryan Callahan and Loui Eriksson – who was playing on the tail end of the flu – work well together and slip the puck into the high slot where another Smurf, Alex Edler, fires one in to give the South a little boost. 6-3 North
19:33 – Both teams seem to be taking it easy – it’s looking more like a practice than a game – and Kopitar is alone in front of Halak. Goal. 6-4 North
Third Period – Goalies: Braden Holtby (N), Frederik Andersen (S)
0:24 – John Tavares hits a goal post. It would have narrowed the score to 6-5.
2:02 – Kevin Shattenkirk passes up the middle, breakaway for Nazem Kadri, he looks up, takes a wrister and scores over Andersen’s right shoulder. 7-4 North
2:50 – Evgeny Malkin holds onto the puck in the corner, wheels out and passes into the goal crease where Ryan Callahan gets a stick on it. Goal for the South. 7-5 North
3:55 – Defense is no longer a concern. James Wisniewski keeps a puck in, skates into the corner, passes to Claude Giroux, across the crease to Gaudreau …. another North goal. 8-5 North
6:32 – That Lucic-Stastny-Nash line keeps South defenders guessing and cashes in again. Lucic taps in a Stastny pass. 9-5 North
7:51 – Tavares to Galchenyuk, back to Tavares, over to Corey Perry and Holtby didn’t stand much of a chance. 9-6 North
12:12 – After a little lull, Kris Versteeg gets fancy, sends a behind-the-back backhand pass to Adam Henrique who holds the puck until Andersen slides to cover the near post, and then tucks it past the goalie on the far side. 10-6 North
14:11 – Galchenyuk doesn’t seem to know the game is virtually over, works hard and sends the puck from the corner to the slot, off Shattenkirk’s skate, and Tavares scores an easy tap-in. 10-7 North
15:37 – Logan Couture blatently trips Ryan Suter. Play continues without a whistle. Suter and Couture both smile.
17:50 – Lucic scores again – this one was a really hard shot – that gets through the five hole on Andersen. Nash and Suter pick up assists. Lucic now has 2 goals and 2 assists in the game. 11-7 North
19:11 – Coach Shane Doan sends that line out there again, presumably thinking one of them has a shot at the MVP award. Stastny slides the puck back the to right point to Del Zotto, a D-to-D pass to Suter who shoots low … and scores. 12-7 North
